Default 2009 and 2010 Touring Recalls

Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Inc. has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists on certain model year 2009 and 2010 Touring family vehicles (including CVO touring and Trike products) built June 6, 2008 through November 19, 2009. On these vehicles, the fuel tank front mounts may distort in reaction to severe frame damage from a frontal collision. This condition may cause a fuel leak at the weld of the front bracket to the tunnel. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire, which could lead to injury or death of the rider.

We have voluntarily declared this a defect related to motor vehicle safety (Campaign 0141) to allow us to formally recall all affected motorcycles. The remedy is to install a left and right hand brace provided in the recall kit, between the front mounts and the frame. These braces are intended to reduce front mount distortion during the crash conditions described above. A service bulletin outlining the repair and credit procedure will follow within ten days. Based on the schedule our supplier has provided we expect to begin shipping repair kits on or before the week of December 14, 2009. Please reference the Service Bulletin for a detailed description of the defect.

More information:

Harley-Davidson is issuing a recall on its 2009 & 2010 touring line made between June 6, 2008, and Nov. 19, 2009, which consists of 111,569 motorcycles in total. The recall is due to concerns over the fuel tank mounts on these motorcycles, which might distort in a collision, possibly leaking fuel, and thus causing a fire.

Affected Harley-Davidson owners may call (414) 343-4056 for more information, or visit the NHTSA’s website at safecar.gov. The safety recall is expected to begin around Dec. 14. H-D dealers will install left and right front braces to reinforce the front mount, free of charge.
No word on how much the recall will cost Harley-Davidson, but on the day the NHTSA recall was issued, HOG stock opened at nearly 2% lower than on the previous day.

We need to get this done guys, real quick like. Don't take my word for it, ask the widow of the young motor patrolman in Arlington, TX who hit a schoolbus a few days ago and his bike exploded in a ball of flames. His bike had not been fixed yet. Sad, real sad.

Default where is everyone

I figured I would post in the newest forum post though this might not apply. It is really sad for those hurt in the recall bikes, but that is what forums like this is for, keep checking in to your bike sites so you know if something is wrong with your bike. Anyways I am always looking for new places to ride, so I am making a route map online, if anyone out there wants to post to it, it would be most appreciative. You can post at allstate insurance route map or allstate insurance moto map. I am an affiliate of allstate, so I am using their web pages for this. Thanks everyone.

Thanks for all the information. It really does help and it is appreciated. If anyone out there needs help finding a dealer or mechanic that fixes recalls for no money, ie: a harley dealer. Let me know, because i know a few places. Also, if you have a great route that is special to you and you want to share it with the motorcycle community please post it at allstate insurance routes or allstate insurance moto. It is an online map I created on allstate's web site because I am an adovcate. Thanks everyone.
