Default Best Handling Shocks for Sportster

I know how everyone loves the "what are the best......" threads but I have to ask. I've got a Sportster and I want to get better hadnling out of the bike. I don't reallyw ant to lower it any but I do want to be able to adjust the compression, damping.

A buddy of mine suggested the Progressive 440 series shocks but what do you guys think? Would these work well? Do I need to do anything to the front forks? Again I don't want to change the height of the forks but they dive a lot under hard braking and just seem kind of soft. What is the best fix for that?

I'm hoping I don't have to get into BIG money shocks and I don't ride real crazy, I just want to make it ride better, not race it. The stock setup works "ok" but I just want to make it better than "ok" thats all.

Any thoughts ??

I am not even going to pretend to be an expert on shocks but in the years of owning Harley Davidsons, I have rarely heard anything but positives about Progressive shocks.

They seem like a good bang for the buck.
