Default Sputtering Heritage Softail

Anyone that can help would be great. I have an 2006 efi FL springer softail that has started sputtering since my last fillup. It acts almost like it's out of gas but it's obviously full since I just filled it.

It was just doing it a little bit at first but now it seems to do it all the time. The idle is eratic, it will stall and pop and has even backfired. It is not setting a DTC but still it sputters.

I thought maybe it was bad gas but I got it at the same station I usually fill up at with no issues. So how do I know and what do I do to fix it?

It definitely sounds like bad gas, even though you usually fill up there. I would drain the tank and flush with clean gas that you know is good. If the bike will run but sputters....the fresh gas will work its way into the system shortly.

Try that before you get very far and eliminate bad gas...because that's definitely what it looks like.

My 2004 Heritage did that and it ended up being a fuel sensor!

I agree with Hammer, drain the gas and get new in tank,You can drain some in a clear container(perfer glass) and let sit a while and se if it has a water in it. Also dont know where you are but do You have differant grades of ethanol in the fuel E19, E85? If you get the wrong E rateing especially in summer it will run really bad.
